Recognizing the Value of Forests: Advancing Ecological Fiscal Incentives in Kerinci, Jambi

On 8 September 2026 in Kerinci, Jambi, CCSF UI held a workshop to strengthen understanding of how forest cover can serve as an ecological performance indicator within Indonesia’s General Allocation Fund (Dana Alokasi Umum/DAU) framework. Bringing together subnational stakeholders, the workshop explored how stronger forest data, fiscal incentives, and cross-sector collaboration can help align forest conservation with subnational development and fiscal planning.

The discussion was enriched by perspectives from academia and conservation practice. Prof. Ir. Yonariza, M.Sc., Ph.D. from Universitas Andalas highlighted the importance of recognizing forests as ecological infrastructure and strengthening conservation, restoration, data, and subnational collaboration. Ir. Andi Fernandes, S.Hut., M.Sc. from Kerinci Seblat National Park presented the park’s current conditions and management challenges, emphasizing forest-cover loss, pressures on conservation areas, inclusive conservation, community partnerships, and the strategic role of reliable forest data in supporting forest-area-based DAU proposals.
